Last league game of the season

A game of firsts, Dads and Sons a great team effort and a Legend!!

Ware 2s Welcomed St Margs to Widford this week. We lost the toss and got asked to field, which we would have probably done anyway as the wicket was damp from over night rain. Dom and Max opened the bowling and bowled very tightly. Dom picked up one of their openers thanks to Oscars first catch in league cricket. The introduction of Sam C and the legend Hugh Andrew’s who bamboozled and befuddled the Batsman. With great catches by Sam and Tony Lucas on his first appearance this season. Then clean bowling his third Victim. At the other End Sam bowled with great control and bowled one of their better bats with a beautiful ball! Then an LBW for Sam. Oscar and Henry then joined the attack and Oscar picked up his first League wicket (first of many I think) thanks to a great catch again by Sam. Henry Bowled superbly and was much too good for the batsmen, but the reintroduction of Max saw him Pick up three wickets and then a run out to finish their innings on 147 a superb bowling and fielding display against a very good batting side. Our innings started poorly with the skipper giving gully catching practice, followed by the quick loss of Max, Sam and Henry stabilised things before Sam went. Sam and Tony both fell to good catches in the slips. When Henry was out for 31 and then. Dom straight after drinks. Dave Green steamed the flow. When joined by Oscar McCann who scored his first runs in adult cricket! Then his first 4, then Dan Carter hit his first runs and 4 before both fell to good bowling. Colin McCann join Hugh at the crease and scored his first Ware runs! Before Hugh was bowled and we closed on 111. That’s the end of another great season, that has seen many new players join the Ware family and hopefully it has fun for everyone!! A few friendlies to finish the season please update your availability!!

The first team made the long journey to league champions Pinner for the final game of the season. Winning the toss Kev asked Pinner to bat and Kev started off well with an LBW in his first over. An early bowling change was successful with Dee picking up the other opener with his second ball. Another first over wicket saw Liam dismiss their number 3 batter thanks to a good catch from Joel at slip. Kev continued to rotate his bowlers in short spells, Kyle bowling well for no reward and Sam and Kev both returning as spinners after their initial quicker spells. Ris again took a wicket in his first over and then a second when Jamie Don took a great catch on the boundary from a ball that had gone miles high in the air. Kev took two more wickets with spin and there were two catches for Tom behind the stumps before a mix up from the last batting pair led to a run out in the final over. Pinner had reached 215 all out off their 40 overs which looked a challenging target on a surface with some uneven bounce. In reply it was slow going against some excellent bowling, Pinner showing why they have the best bowling attack in the league. The returning Nick Verril anchored the innings with 41, well supported by Liam (14) and Tom (25) before a late flurry from Kev (28) saw us finish the innings on 141 for 8 off our 40 overs, a really good showing against a team playing a few divisions below their true standard.
