Week 15

Steve Risby18 Aug - 06:05

Ones woes continue and great win for 2s!

On a cloudy day at Widford the 2nd team won the toss and decided to have a bowl. With Kev and Immy opening up, Kev struck in the first over when the Welwyn opener decided to Chip the 3rd ball to Jamie at point. Immy then clean bowled the number 3! And the wickets came at steady intervals with Kev getting 4 and Immy 2, faultless catching from Sam and Joel to support the bowling and then Wizard that is Jamie Don joined the Attack and bowled two and a catch for Sam for his third, before Sam C picked up the last wicket. John Story also bowled a couple of tidy overs! Welwyn all out for 88 in 22 overs. Very good bowling by all on what looked a decent track. Si and Phil opened the batting and knocked the runs off in 18 overs with another 50 for Phil and a great Win for the Ware boys moves us above Welwyn in the league. Well played all

Ware went out to bat.
And Ware fell.
Sixty-two runs—no more. The line was broken, the defence undone.
Bamville came on with force and fury. They struck hard. They struck fast. Ten overs was all it took.

Yet in the storm there was courage. Jack, striking first blood. Hugh, pouncing like a hawk, seizing a splendid catch from the bowling of Steve Price. George, steadfast, unyielding, standing firm with bat and gloves alike.

Yes, this is our third defeat in four weeks. Yes, we were outplayed in every quarter. But let the record show—Ware is not beaten. We remain at the summit—though by a thread. And before us stand three battles still. Three chances. Three fields upon which to reclaim our crown.

Nick spoke well, and we take his words to heart: we are still top. Still fighting. Still in command of our fate.

To Bamville we give thanks. They were fierce in contest, but gracious in spirit, their captain a most worthy foe, a gentleman.

And now—on to next week. We shall not falter. We shall not yield. Ware will rise again.
