For the opening game of the season the Twos travelled down to Enfield to take on Holtwhites Trinibis. After losing the toss we were asked to bat on a pitch that offered some very variable bounce with quite a few balls keeping very low, as proved by the ball that got Sam Compton in the second over. We lost Dom soon after but rebuilt through Simon and Joel who put on 65 before Joel was caught and bowled for 29. Simon followed shortly after for 40 but Steve Price held the rest of the innings together with an excellent 66 not out, hitting three sixes and building stands of 29 with John Storey and an unbeaten 33 with Ryan, running some very speedy twos in the process. We finished on a respectable 177 for 8 off our 40 overs with an honourable mention to Sam Green on his first outing for the club
In reply Ryan and the returning Imran opened the bowling and made things difficult for their openers, getting one out each. Ryan in particular was very tight, only conceding 21 off his 8 overs. Steve Price, Joel and Sam all bowled well with a couple of catches missed off Steve’s bowling and the ball going up in the air but not to the fielder regularly. Sam took one more wicket but Holtwhites reached the target with three wickets down. It was a good all round performance, with an excellent wicket keeping display from Jamie Don on a tough pitch
Ware Cricket Club’s 1st XI clinched a solid six-wicket victory over Botany Bay CC 2nd XI on May 10, 2025, in Widford. Electing to field first, Ware restricted Botany Bay to 183/8 from their 40 overs, thanks to sharp bowling from Meakin, who claimed 3/25, and Price with a tidy 2/21. Their consistent line and length prevented any major acceleration from the opposition.
In response, Ware chased down the target with composure, finishing on 184/3 in 37.3 overs. Opener Chambers set the platform with a composed 57, before skipper Griffin anchored the innings with a superb unbeaten 77, guiding the team home with confidence and control.
The win earned Ware 30 match points and showcased their all-round strength with both bat and ball. With momentum building, they’ll look to carry this form into the next fixture.
