Hard work but worth it

I think we all thought that the first few weeks of the season would be difficult and it has proved to be the case as availability has been an issue and money is tight. We have been able to field sides so far and hopefully this will continue. We have only won one game which is part down to our limited playing pool at the moment and the strength of the oppo. A personal word of thanks to Pete Dev and Hugh Andrews again who have worked very hard to contact every person in their phonebooks to try and get sides out, it has proved to be difficult but they have managed to do it and despite some heavy losses the youngsters are getting a bat and a bowl (well everyone is getting a bat) and we are having a laugh on the pitch and meeting up after the game which tends to be in the Brewery Tap in Ware. The first team won their first game but have lost twice since including a great game over at Stevenage who were great hosts. Many thanks to Phil and especially to Tom who has helped out with skippering the side whilst helping to arrange the teas, transport, keeping wicket and opening the batting. Stars of the show so far have been Si Knott who has wickets and runs and is bowling superbly, Scott again is contributing with bat and ball although the figures don't quite show it yet, Tom is very consistent at the top of the order and there have been contributions from Sam, Steve L and new bloke Pete who has fitted in really well and added a lot to the club. The twos have the benefit of Kev in the side who has again scored runs and led by example with his fielding. Remember that this bank holiday is the start of the Sunday fixtures and no place better to begin than over at Hertingfordbury which is a superb ground. Please do make yourself known to me, Dev, Hugh if you are around this weekend - it would be really appreciated. A gentle reminder that we need your annual membership money, we really do need it. Also, joining the 100 club is of benefit to the club (and to you) so please contact Mike Vaughan to set up a standing order starting at £2 per month. We do have nets on Thursday over at Widford, weather permitting. Junior training continues on Sunday evening 5-7pm over at Glaxo again with thanks to Tom, Phil, Scott and Hugh who have provided structured but fun sessions, yesterday there were 12 youngsters who practiced batting and fielding. Tom in particular has put a lot of effort in to these sessions.
