Ware lost the toss and were put in to bat. Andy Milton and Kevin Meakin opened the batting well in the roasting hot sun. Kev got another 50 by hitting a 6 that wasn't clapped (sorry Kev). After Kev was bowled on 65, Dominic Compton took the lead with a 60 run partnership with club veteran David Green. Dom finished the innings in style, hitting 16 runs off the last over (2,2,4,4,.,4), ending on 80 not out.
After tea, Stevenage's batting was no match for Ware's bowling attack. Kevin Meakin bowled both openers with his slow ball out the back of his hand. Ben Compton bowled one guy around his legs, and Matt Gilewicz was on for a hat-trick at one stage, after cruelly bowling a young teenager first ball with an unplayable quick offbreak. Rob Davies got his first senior team wicket with a nice c&b, Fred Devonshire lured a batsman into getting caught, and then Andy Milton and Kev finished off Stevenage's last couple of wickets for the win.
Well played everyone, especially in such hot conditions.
Next match is away against Hitchin's IV team.
